Hi Stephen
Thanks very much. It’s been a tough adjustment being back in the office today after such a wonderful time.
The rest of the trip was amazing. Rhino Post – specifically the Plains Camp – was a truly unforgettable experience.
The walking portions themselves were really cool, but even more than that we really loved being out in a much more rustic, intimate setting where we truly were unplugged for a few days. Our guide Mo was great, and also the other folks that were there were are really nice and the whole combination made for such an amazing few days that we’re already talking about when we’ll go back!
JoBurg was fine – we didn’t really leave the hotel except to go to the shopping mall that was attached to it and so didn’t really get to see much of the city. I think next time we’d probably skip it, though of course understood why it made sense to spend a night there given our travel schedule.
The Seychelles were fantastic. That Hilton was really great with the villa up on the mountain (but not too far from the beach) with our own infinity pool! We spent the day laying in the pool and drinking champagne until the fruit bats came out and scared Jill away! And then of course the Four Seasons Descroches was fantastic – basically having our own island to explore via bicycle. We found all of these little beach spots where we snorkeled and paddleboarded, and I did some awesome diving while we were there. The only thing we weren’t really prepared for was how expensive all of the meals were there – I guess it makes sense since everything has to be brought in, but paying USD $80 for a casual lunch and then USD $400 for dinner was a bit of a surprise, but we didn’t mind splurging for the honeymoon.
So all-in-all, an truly unique experience and a once-in-a-lifetime trip! Thanks so much for working with me to put everything together – I don’t think the Plains Camp is something we would have discovered trying to book on our own. We also really enjoyed our time with Martin.
In terms of what we would change – I think our only regret was not spending a bit more time in certain places! I think we would have liked to have had another day in CPT / wine country and another day at the Plains Camp. 14 days seems like a long time, but we didn’t account for how much time traveling would eat up – basically 2 days on each end – which left us with closer to 10 days.
Anyway – it simply gives us reason to go back to South Africa in the future. And at that point I’ll definitely be reaching back out!
If you’d like me to leave a review somewhere (like on TripAdvisor) we’d be happy to do so! We’re planning to do that for Martin and for Rhino Post over the next week or so.
Thanks again
Kristjan
