Kgalagadi Park
When you do a Kgalagadi Safari, you are in a area that was an amalgamation of the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa and the Gemsbok National Park in Botswana.
The result is the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park comprises an area of over 3,6 million hectares – one of very few conservation areas of this magnitude left in the world.
This is where we our Kgaglagadi Safari experience plays out and a park that we rate very highly.
Honest disclosure-I really like this park.
Kgalagadi means “Land of the thirst”.
The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is bigger than the Kruger National Park and is a unique safari experience in a very unique environment.
Sample Kgalagadi safari
Here is an example of a 4N Kgalagadi Safari I just designed
A Kgalagadi Safari was in the past restricted to a drive in 4 x4 camping self catering experience. While that is still available, there has been 2 new lodges on the Botswana side, and 1 new one of the South Africa side, thereby making a Kgalagadi Safari more amenable to a International visitor.
Th game viewing is amazing. You can experience migrating herds of grazing anteople such as wildebeest, gemsbok, springbok and eland,as well as predators such as lion, cheetah and leopard.
With its unending red dunes with unique flora and a diversity of epic proportions,a Kgalagadi Safari in this ancient land of the Kalahari Desert,is an unique experience.
Climate
In summer (October to April), the temperature in the Kgalagadi climbs up to 40 degrees Celsius and sometimes higher. The annual rainfall is rarely more than 100 mm, and some years it even stays below 50 mm. Typically this is the time of the iconic Kalahari thunderstorms.
In winter (June to August), the temperatures lie around 25 degrees Celsius. This results in the air being dry and very clear days can be expected. The nights are extremely cold. Winter is also the best time for animal viewing. Because of the drought, the game is forced to come to the waterholes in the riverbeds.
The best game viewing area is the Nossob, and many folks say the Nossob Ravine area, offers some of the best predator viewing in all of Africa. As a unique Africa Safari experience,a Kgalagadi Safari cant be beat.
