Shumba Camp
This is simply an amazing place to experience an Africa Safari.
This Zambia Safari Camp,Shumba Camp is named after a pride of local lion’s that sometimes can get up to 20 strong.
The Busanga Plains is located within the huge Kafue National park in Zambia.
As the plains start to dry up from the summer rainfall they attract herds of red lechwe,puku,stately roan,the small oribi, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest,herds of wildebeest,zebra,and buffalo.
This makes for a large variety of antelope,and accompanying them….. lion, cheetah and wild dog.
Shumba Camp is located within the middle of all of this with view’s stretching 360 degrees across the plains to the miombo woodland.

Shumba Camp comprises of
- Six spacious luxury safari tents built on raised platforms with views of the surrounding plains.
- The tented Safari rooms are large en-suite with both indoor and outdoor showers.
- The dining and bar areas are elevated so as to take in the view.
- The evening meals takes place either here or in the cosy boma where guests enjoy some local Zambian culture.
Many meals are prepared and cooked on the fire in front of the guests enhancing the safari experience.
Shumba Camp is a small intimate camp with only 12 guests that can be accommodated at any one time.
Shumba Camp Guests have the option of day game drives as well as night drives.
In the extreme north of the Kafue lies the Busanga Plains,one of the few areas in the world that remain untouched by development.
These plains cover an area of approximately 750 square kilometres.Shumba Camp is in the center of this breathtaking wilderness.
Shumba Camp location takes advantage of the Busanga plains game and predators since its situated so close to permanent water,and is has easy access to a mix of seasonal and permanent floodplains.
Its possible to view view species like puku,lechwe and hippo from the comfort of your tent or from the main deck.
The camp’s fig trees not only gives shade,it offers good bird activity well.

Shumba Camp is closed seasonally between 01 December and 30 April each year.
At 22,500 square kilometres,Kafue National Park is one of the largest National Parks in Africa.
Kafue National Park is fed by three rivers,the Lufupa in the north-west and the Lunga and Kafue in the north-east.
The Lufupa River floods in the summer,creating a large floodplain delta system that attracts thousands of waterbirds.
The Park has the largest mammal species diversity of all the Zambia Safari parks.
This is mainly due to a habitat mix that includes miombo woodland and seasonal open grassy areas called dambo.The Park contains 55 large mammal species – including 20 ungulate and 6 cat species.
The birdlife is a huge attraction for many people as its contains 491 species.
In the Busanga you can see the Wattled Cranes,Fülleborn’s Longclaw,Ross’s Turaco, Schalow’s Turaco, African Finfoot, Half-collared Kingfisher, Red-throated Twinspot, Böhm’s Bee-eater, Black-backed Barbet, Brown Firefinch, Sooty Chat and Western Banded Snake-Eagle.
As well as rollers, bee-eaters, kingfishers, herons and large flocks of Open-billed and Yellow-billed Storks.
