This 7 night Zambia Safari itinerary which can be modified/extended to include the Victoria Falls combines South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi.
The Luangwa Valley is possibly one of the worlds last unspoiled wilderness areas and potentially one of the finest wildlife sanctuary in Africa.
This Zambia Safari park which is scenically bordered by a scenic escarpment has very good game viewing which can be viewed from either the river in a canoe or on the land or via a walking or driving safari.
Drifting past elephants that are feeding by the river bank is a one of the kind experience.
It covers an area of over 9000 sq. km, and among the oxbow lagoons, woodland and plains of the valley you will find huge concentrations o elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe, hippo,and over 450 species of birds.

Day 1 to 4
After being met at the airport your guide will drive you to Nkwali Camp through colourful local scenes of villages, agriculture as well as bush.
Nkwali Camp overlooks a wide bend of the Luangwa River into the South Luangwa National Park and is ideally situated for the start of your safari.
All rooms have a view of the river and open air bathrooms.
The game in this area is very good- and includes many family herds of elephants and the endemic Thornicroft Giraffe.
A typical day at Nkwali starts with you waking with the dawn to enjoy breakfast round a camp fire before heading out on your morning activity.
A delicious lunch is enjoyed on the bank of the lagoon, which is frequently visited by our local wildlife.
The afternoon is the quiet part of the day – for siesta or swim in the pool.
In the mid-afternoon you meet up with your guide before heading out for an evening adventure,finding a beautiful location to watch the sun go down with a well earned drink in hand.
The opportunity to discover the nocturnal world by spotlight is a wonderful treat before heading back to Nkwali for dinner.
Day 2, 3, 4
At dawn breakfast is served around the campfire and the morning walk or drive will leave soon after.
You enter the park by boat .
A mid morning break of tea, coffee and cake will be taken by a scenic point on a lagoon or the Luangwa River.
Return to camp for lunch around mid day.
Tea will be served in the afternoon and then off on an afternoon game drive that continues into the early night giving the chance to see the nocturnal world.
Usually one returns to camp about 20.00 hrs with dinner generally at 20:30.
Day 5
After an early breakfast, transfer to Mfuwe Airport for the flight to the Lower Zambezi (1 hour 30 mins).
As you approach this area, you will see the wide Zambezi River,dotted with islands, and the chances are good that you will spot Buffalo and elephant feeding, as well as pods of hippos that rest on the sandbanks.
Chongwe River Camp only 20 mins from the airstrip is situated on the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi Rivers directly opposite Mana Pools.
The Chongwe River is the boundary of the Lower Zambezi National Park, and the camp is located right on the banks of the Lower Zambezi river.
The camp has a wonderful view of not only the confluence of the two rivers but also the mountains of the impressive Zambezi escarpment.
At Chongwe river camp, relax is the operative word..just be in nature,and enjoy this unique Zambia Safari experience.
Chongwe river camp offers both day and night drives,Safari boat cruises,walking safaris,and a Safari canoe experience.
Activities are extremely flexible and with individuals choosing from drives, walks, boat cruises, canoeing and fishing.
Game viewing in the pristine Lower Zambezi National Park is superb and big game, such as elephant, hippo, buffalo and the big cats are even seen regularly in and around the camp!
After a late lunch there will be a chance for an afternoon activity – be it on the river or by vehicle.
Day 6
At Chongwe River Camp there are many Safari activities to choose from.
- Day and night Safari drives
- Bush walks,
- Canoe trips,
- River safaris on safe, stable pontoon boats
- Catch & release angling for the infamous tiger fish.
Day 7
Enjoy another full day of activities on Safari at Chongwe.With so many different unique ways to experience the bush, you will have many opportunities to experience a diversity of game
Day 8
After breakfast we drive through the park, one last opportunity for game viewing, to catch the plane taking you to your next destination..
