Cape Town Endurance Challenge Tour Details:
Day 1: Arrive Cape Town
After arrival at Cape Town international Airport, a quick 20-minute transfer takes us to our Hotel at the Cities V&A Waterfront. The day is left to use as you wish – make sure you are back at the hotel in time for your Cape Town Endurance Challenge adventure briefing.
Options are a visit to the famous Robin Island Prison where Nelson Mandela was held, a half-day trip into the townships to get an idea of how the majority of South Africans live, or simply visit the shops, aquarium and festivities of the Waterfront or one the Cape Beaches.
That evening we will have a safety brief and presentation of the 6 tough days to come before dinner and settling down for the night.
Day 2: Table Mountain
To day you begin with your Cape Town Endurance Challenge
Itinerary:
3 hours to ascend 1000km, Lunch at the top, Two to Three hours to descend. Total of 7 to 9 hours
Transfer to hillside camp with spectacular coastal views
Braai (BBQ) for dinner
Attractions: Ascent of the famous Table Mountain; home to many species of animals and birds. This is part of the smallest, yet richest (most species diverse) floral Kingdom in the world. The hike boasts a selection of endless views in every direction: the city and Robin Island (home to Nelson Mandela for many years), beaches and Atlantic Ocean, Mountain ranges and ravines and the inland Plains.
Day 3: Sea Kayak Hout Bay and Seals
Itinerary:
Transfer to Hout Bay
The day’s challenge is to Kayak the entire perimeter of Hout Bay and weather permitting to pass very closely to hundreds of seals at Seal Island. Enjoy a fantastic sunset from the hillside camp.
Attractions: After Breakfast (not too early) we begin our days challenge; a half day, 7-10 km Sea Kayak around Hout Bay. This cliffside route should take us past the whales that visit the bay each year. If the wind is in our favour, we will pass Seal Island, home to many seals that will swim out to welcome our arrival before returning to the beach to rest.
Day 4: Sandrif and Maalgat:
Itinerary:
Early Start: 7 to 8am
Transfer: 3-4 Hours by road to our riverside camp in the Cedarberg Mountains. Hear we enjoy lunch and relax in the afternoon sun.
Attractions: A short hike of 35 minutes downstream from the camp to Maalgat. This large natural pool has some fantastic jumps from the cliffs that surround it or simply offers a cool refreshing swim after soaking up the African sun. A series of caves near to camp host a magnificent collection of ancient bushman’s paintings and are well worth a visit if there is time.
Day 5: Wolfberg Cracks and Arch
Itinerary:
Early start: 7 – 8am
Hike: Tough 17km day. Steep ascent for 2-3 hours to the Wolfberg Cracks. Flat hike along the escarpment and past the Wolfberg Arch. Here we have lunch before descending and walking back to camp in the late afternoon.
Attractions: All day is spent on hiking through the Cedarberg Mountain Range.
We pass through the Wolfberg Cracks to reach the summit. The cracks are deeply carved out of the mountain’s edge and create a set of steep shaded gorges ready to explore. Later we pass under the spectacular Wolfberg Arch; designed over years by the forces of nature and left for us to enjoy. The evening is spent enjoying the healthy aching in our bodies around a roaring campfire. The skies here are clear and crisp and you would never have seen so many stars before as the crickets sing you to sleep.
Day 6: Maltese Cross
Itinerary:
Early Start: 8am
Hike: Full day round trip to the Maltese cross
Attractions: After Breakfast we head off on up to the Maltese Cross (a giant natural stone crucifix). This gives us our final chance to enjoy the fauna and flora of the natural surroundings. Watch out for the snakes, scorpions and baboons
Day 7: West Coast Trek
Itinerary:
Early Start: 8am
Transfer: 3 hour transfer to the West coast
Atlantic trek: We spend the day on a coastal trek, exploring the bays and beaches as we head south and use the cold Atlantic to stay refreshed.
Accommodation: Fantastic beach Front Hotel in Langebaan
The evening is spent having our final dinner together..
Attractions: Spectacular Coastal beaches. The west Coast has no cliffs but is characterized by long white sandy beaches, secluded bays and rock pools. A good chance of seeing seals.
Day 8: Time to go Home
Have a relaxing 3 hour journey back to the airport for the flight home and a welcome rest.
