The African Queen is a 5-star boat, a triple deck 70ft catamaran furnished in Rhodesian teak, beech wood and brass. Clients are transferred to the Royal Landing and board the boat for a sunset cruise including a selection of cocktails and iced drinks as well as freshly prepared light snacks. Return to the hotel after sunset.The magnificent Falls resort in Zambia is situated on the banks of the Zambezi River, close to the spectacular Eastern Cataract of the mighty Victoria Falls.

Scheduled flight to Mala Mala Mala Mala Camp is a traditional safari camp with a long history of providing a top quality safari experience. Reilly’s Rock Lodge is the utterly captivating former homestead of conservationist Ted Reilly. Later to day fly from Swaziland to Durban. I based this on a 200p departure, arrive 610p Durban. There are earlier  flights, and have the guide for just a half  a day.  Zimbali Lodge is easily the most luxurious beach resort on the Dolphin coast, a an elegant and sophisticated hideaway only 40 minutes from Durban. You travel along the coastal road through the chic suburbs of Clifton, Camps Bay and onto the picturesque fishing community of Hout Bay.  Next you enjoy a scenic drive along Chapmans Peak as it hugs the cliffside and continue south to reach Cape Point in the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, said to be the romantic meeting point of two mighty oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian.  Sir Francis Drake, the famous explorer, once called it “the fairest Cape that we saw in the whole circumference of the Globe.”  Returning along the Indian Ocean you stop to visit the unique penguin colonies at Boulders beach, often a highlight of your time in Cape Town, and meander through the historic naval base of Simonstown and onto Kirstenbosch Botanical gardens, which must surely be some of the finest gardens in Africa, nestling on the lower slopes of Table Mountain. We walk through the gardens where 4,000 of the 22,000 Southern African flowering plants are cultivated in a setting of mountain streams, pools and rolling lawns. You continue to Stellenbosch: it is easy to see why Simon Van Der Stel decided to build a village in such a charming spot. Walk up Dorp street, one of the longest row of old Cape Dutch buildings in South Africa and then visit the Village Museum, a collection of preserved houses which gives an insight into the lives of the early settlers in Stellenbosch through to the Victorian era. Afterwards you enjoy a scenic drive over the majestic Helshoogte Pass to the charming village of Franschhoek for lunch and a little time for browsing in the galleries and shops. The origins of this charming and beautifully situated village date back to 1688 when some of the French Huguenots fleeing religious persecution settled in the valley, later to be known as French Corner or ‘Franschhoek’ in Afrikaans. The tour ends with a visit to the magnificent manor house of Boschendal followed by wine-tasting at its cellars. Time permitting you visit the Taal Monument, a symbolic gesture to the Afrikaans language, and enjoy breathtaking views of the whole of the Winelands before being dropped off at your hotel in the late afternoon at approx 5.30am.

Falcons View Manor has been bought be a very friendly cosmopolitan german couple, who are hoteliers, and has recently reopened after some months of renovations. They’ve kept the old ambience of the manor house but brightened up the public areas with select use of more modern colours and sofas. Bathrooms have had a complete makeover – very modern and fresh. The standard and superior rooms are in the main Victorian homestead with its polished wood floors, high ceilings and antique furniture. They differ in size and views.
