Whale Watching
Southern Right Whales can be spotted on the South African coastline from June to early December. Hermanus is known as arguably the best land-based whale watching destination in the world.
Southern Right Whales return to Hermanus every year as the sheltered bay is believed to provide the perfect environment for them to mate and calve.
Walker Bay is often referred to as a ‘nursery’ home to an abundance of mothers and new-born calves as they rest, feed and play.
In addition to the ‘Southern Rights’ there are also Humpback whales, resident Bryde’s whales and even the elusive Orcas occasionally spotted in the Bay.
While engaging in whale watching activities in Hermanus you will also have the opportunity to interact with the marine ‘Big Five,’ the Southern Right Whale, Great White Shark, Cape Fur Seal, Common Dolphin and African Penguin.
Whether taking a boat trip, a guided tour or walk along the Cliff Path this excellent location allows easy access to a variety of marine based activities.
