Excludes/Notes
1) You cannot prepay the KNP conservation fees as you are not staying in the park,so remind the group abut the costs and when we stay in Johannesburg before we fly up to KNP,they can take out the money….I think they can pay for it by credit card…I will see if I can get hold of the park to arrange a group payment on arrival.
3) Meals for the Eastern Cape portion where not included below, best to have cash for..if the electricity goes of when we are leaving then we cant use credit cards.Again at the Johannesburg airport they can take money out if need be.
4) On arrival into Upington they can take money out again if need be…before we leave Upington for the park, about 1.52 hr drive to get to the bushman overnite, we will go to a mall so they can buy some snack/supplies for the next 3 days…the one lodge has a small selection of snacks etc.
5) Kalagadi meals will show in the main rate…it means that what they serve the students will need to eat.Let me know if we have any vegetarians.
6)Travel Insurance not included..Please include Emergency Medical evacuation.
7) Let me know if you want the 12th full day for the cape point tour/surfing etc and how many for the surf lessons.
8) Tips not included.
9) Visa costs for anyone not traveling on a US passport that may incur visa cost, not included.
10) Luggage…from past experience some students have to very large heavy bags….this trip we simply cannot have that…we have 2 trips ie Eastern Cape and the KNP portion that entail smaller vans with luggage trailers and if we have to big a bag and multiple bags per student we wont have room for them as the vans are smaller.
As well the internal flights only allow 44lbs… International flights are much more…so they must be conservative in there packing…..this trip is a casual clothing in mostly warm weather, and they can wash ie Eastern Cape, Cape Town, even Kruger…so please make sure they understand.
11) If you are planning to bring say extra clothes/school supplies, soccer balls deflated( ensure you bring the pump adapter with them) pack them into 1 bag…if its overweight which it will be, we can see if its for say the KNP portion if we can stash it at the hotel in Joburg..Let me know what you decide about this.
12) 26/27/28 meals Graskop/Kruger ….not much different than the states possibly a little cheaper due to the rate of exchange..they should be only to use a credit card in these places..since no meals are included in kruger except for the bush braai and game drives are included…let the group know they must be flexible for these days…when out on safari in the am, there are places they will stop at for breakfast…
The bungalows at Satara have communal kitchens and locals and some tourists like to buy supplies at the shop and braai(Barbeque) ..that’s a option for the students as well.
13) The backpackers in Quno eastern Cape first night as Martha has experienced before is going to be very basic..they do have meals as well for purchase…explain this is part of the cultural experience..food/taste will all be different…meal costs dinner R80/$6 ish/breakfast R70/$5 ish
14) 30th..after done with Quno on the way to the village we will stop at a local town and the group can buy fruit/snacks etc..
15th)Entrance fee for Meerkat walk, paid in cash to the center R260 per visit.will have 2x visits. We can collect that the nite before.
16) For the Bushman experience we can order/beads/nylon etc to make a beaded bracelet or necklace…cost is Bracelets R35/$4.50 and Necklaces R 90/about $7.00.it will be a nice memory and a quite activity giving them a feel of the pace/rhythm of the area..Let me know how many of each and will add it to the final cost.

They are credited with many of the famous discoveries including the world famous “Mrs Ples” and “Little Foot”, an almost complete Australopithecus skeleton dating back more than 3-million years. The tours at the Sterkfontein Caves, which start above ground and then take visitors deep into the caves.
The site of Drimolen is one of the archaeological sites in the ‘Cradle of Humankind’, about 40 km from Johannesburg. It is located in the ‘Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve’. Of all the paleontological sites of South Africa, Drimolen shows certainly the potential to become the richest in terms of fossil hominids remains, the ancestors of the human lineage. Over a hundred of hominid fossils were discovered so far. The paleontological and archaeological remains come from the sediments accumulated in caves over millions of years which underwent the process of fossilization.
